Reminder: Early Voting Starts Today In Buda, San Marcos!

San Marcos voters will choose two City Council members (Place 3 and Place 4) and vote on amendments to the City Charter.

Early voting for the Nov. 7, 2017, local and state elections begins today, Oct. 23, at designated early polling places.

Election Day will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at designated polling places.

Registered voters will need to bring photo identification to qualify to vote, but according to the Texas Secretary of State, if a voter does not possess an acceptable form of photo ID and the voter cannot obtain such ID due to a reasonable impediment, the voter may still cast a regular ballot by presenting a supporting form of ID and executing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration, noting the voter’s reasonable impediment to obtaining an acceptable form of photo ID, and stating that the voter is the same person as the person on the presented form of supporting form of ID.

San Marcos voters will choose two City Council members (Place 3 and Place 4) and vote on amendments to the City Charter. Voting precincts and locations can be found at www.sanmarcostx.gov/elections or by calling the Hays County Elections Administrator at 512.393.7310.

On the ballot for City Council are:

  • Council Member, Place 3: Ed Mihalkanin, Amy Stanfield
  • Council  Member, Place 4: Jane Hughson, Joshua Simpson

Early voting will take place at the following locations for San Marcos voters:

Hays County Government Center Conference Room, 712 S. Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos:

  • Monday-Friday, Oct. 23-27, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 29, 1-6 p.m.; Monday-Friday, Oct. 30-Nov. 3 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Hays County Health Department, 401 A Broadway Street

  • Wednesday-Friday, Oct. 25-27, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 29, 1-6 p.m.

Texas State University, LBJ Student Center, 700 Student Center Drive

  • Monday, Oct. 23, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Oct. 24, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Voters will be required to show one of the following forms of photo identification before voting:

  • Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
  • Texas concealed handgun license issued by DPS
  • United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States passport

Voters who do not have any of the acceptable forms of photo identification listed above will be required to present one of the following forms of supporting forms of ID:

  • Valid voter registration certificate
  • Certified birth certificate (must be an original)
  • Copy of or original current utility bill
  • Copy of or original bank statement
  • Copy of or original government check
  • Copy of or original paycheck
  • Copy of or original government document with your name and an address (original required if it contains a photograph)

FOR/AGAINST    Shall the Code of Ordinances of the City of Buda, Texas be amended to  adopt an ordinance resuming the use of fluoride additives within the  allowable level as recommended and regulated by the Texas  Commission on Environmental Quality in the City of Buda municipal  potable water supply?

Charter Amendments

The City of Buda adopted a home rule charter in November of 2007 establishing the council/manager form of government still in place today. A revised charter was approved in 2012. The Buda City Council has called for a City Charter Amendment election November 7, 2017 that will include 19 amendments. The following guide provides the proposed amendments ballot language, the charter language if approved, and the anticipated financial impact.
