Rio Claro Hosts Cecy Holcomb’s Aguas Frescas Trunk Show

Rio Claro Studio, the downtown San Marcos fine art concept space, invites the community to celebrate mothers and abuelitas when they host their “Aguas Frescas” Trunk Show with guest artist Cecy Holcomb’s beautifully-crafted pottery on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 12-6 pm.

Although the focus will be on Holcomb’s Aguas Frescas pitchers and cups; an array of ceramics will be shown. Come and raise a glass to the special women in your life. This will be the first Mother’s Day celebration at Rio Claro Studio and the event will have a decidedly Latin American feel. Gallery co-owner, Gigi Mederos, who is Venezuelan, remembers Aguas Frescas well. Gigi said, “Cecy’s ceramic work is beautiful.

Her pitchers, inspired by the shapes and colors of fruit, brought me to a place of childhood celebrations and of everyday refreshments. Aguas Frescas speak of family; they speak of love. These pitchers are a perfect gift for Mother’s Day, especially with summer right around the corner!”

Aguas Frescas are a part of life in Mexico, the Caribbean, and the rest of Latin America. There is no limit to the variations as they can have a fruit, cereal or flower base mixed with water and sweetener. Horchata and Chicha are two examples of cereal-based aguas frescas while Agua de Jamaica is made with hibiscus flowers. Lemonade is an American example of an aguas frescas. Event-goers will be transported by aguas frescas made with melon, strawberries and even cucumber!

The Aguas Frescas Trunk Show Celebration is free and open to the public, and will be held in the foyer of Rio Claro Studio, known as The WOSI, 120 West Hopkins Street, San Marcos TX.
