The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is expanding its adoption hours starting January 2, 2019. The Adoption Center’s new hours will be from 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and on Saturday the adoption center will be open from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

The shelter will continue to be closed on Wednesday and Sunday for maintenance and continued care of the animals. At this time, Animal Control hours will remain the same. The change in hours is expected to increase adoptions by giving potential adopters more time in the evening to visit the shelter.

“Now those who are getting off work at 5 p.m. will have more time to stop by and find that special dog or cat to add to their family,” said San Marcos Animal Services Manager Kara Montiel. “For our animals, it means a better chance of finding their forever home.”

    1. Hi S, I have already reached out to the city to ask if the schedule for reclaiming pets or dropping off found pets has changed and am currently waiting on an answer. Hopefully, I will hear something tomorrow. It’s possible the schedule for reclaiming and receiving pets has not changed. But we will update the article when we get an response.
