San Marcos Farmers’ Market, at San Antonio St., has been named the “June Downtown Business of the Month” by the San Marcos Main Street Program.

The weekly Farmers’ Market has helped maintain a vibrant downtown environment for the community, local farmers, and artisans for 10 years.

The San Marcos Farmers Market Association started by running a Tuesday market about 40 years ago, but it was not until 10 years ago that the Farmers Market joined the downtown community.

Ten years ago, the Saturday Market started at Tantra Coffeehouse and was moved to San Antonio Street a year later where it has been taking place for 52 weeks a year ever since, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Farmers’ Market has products from farms around the area including River Bottom Farms, Kitchen Gardens, Birdies Farm & Flowers, Emadi Acres, Genfan Family Farm, and Caskey Orchards. A variety of handmade arts and crafts are also available, from homemade pies to handmade soaps and jewelry.

The market also features live music each week from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Main Street Program congratulates San Marcos Farmers’ Market for its longevity as a business, and for enriching Downtown San Marcos with its vibrant and creative setting.

Nominations for “Business of the Month” are open on an ongoing basis. If you know a worthy business based on Main Street’s eight criteria below or for more information, email mainstreet@sanmarcostx.gov.

The San Marcos Main Street Program chooses one downtown business each month for the Downtown Business of the Month award.

The award is presented to a business that exemplifies the following eight criteria: growth, staying power, innovation, response to adversity, contribution to community-oriented projects, marketing & promotional efforts, curb appeal, and beautification.
