Construction on the new service and maintenance facility is scheduled to begin in 18 months and be completed in a year.

San Marcos City Council members approved $2.5 million to purchase 21 acres of land for a combined public services and community services maintenance facility on Clovis Barker Road, near Interstate 35.

Current plans for the first phase of the maintenance facility call for building a 27,000-square-foot administration building, 36,000 square feet of utility bays, a 16,500-square-foot facility for vehicle canopy storage, 14,000 square feet of covered storage for material and an 185,000-square-foot storage yard for materials, Assistant City Manager Steve Parker said.

Voters approved bonds to pay for the new facility that will eventually be home to the electric, water, wastewater and drainage utility departments, in addition to street and traffic personnel, park maintenance and fleet operations.

Construction on the new service and maintenance facility is scheduled to begin in 18 months and be completed in a year.
