San Marcos City Staff Seek Citizen Input in Flood-Damaged Areas

San Marcos City staff will go door-to-door in flood-damaged areas seeking input on disaster recovery housing program options Saturdays in March.

On March 4, 11, and 18, staff will visit residents in their homes to take down information that will help identify what unmet needs remain in areas damaged by the 2015 floods.

These staff members will have City-issued ID badges with them while they are visiting residents. They will ask for contact information, property information, what if any flood damage occurred, and other information pertinent to disaster recovery options.

This information will be shared with the City Council and staff as they move forward to implement the housing allocation of the $25 million Department of Housing and Urban Development – Disaster Recovery Grant.  An Action Plan for the grant was approved by HUD late last year.

The plan allocates the funds among four categories:

  • Housing: $7,524,000
  • Infrastructure: $12,540,000
  • Planning: $3,762,000
  • Administration: $1,254,000

The City is also working to create new housing programs that may include reconstruction, rehabilitation, elevation, and buyouts in flood-affected areas.
