Federal Judge Sides with Dallas over Banning Pornography Expo

AUSTIN – A federal judge ruled in favor of the City of Dallas following its decision to ban a pornography convention from being hosted at a city-owned convention center. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the Dallas Citizens Council filed an amicus brief earlier this month in support of the city.

“We are pleased with this ruling,” Attorney General Paxton said. “I was happy to join the Dallas Citizens Council in this effort that allows the city of Dallas to be a place where businesses can continue to flourish.”

The judge agreed with the city and with the Attorney General’s Office that Dallas has a right to refuse to enter into an agreement with the sexually-oriented business eXXXotica, because a city-owned convention center is not a public forum. The judge also agreed that banning eXXXotica was reasonable and the viewpoint neutral.
