San Marcos Crews To Begin Waterline Repair Along Sessom Drive

“Work on this project is expected to continue until the end of February 2019, weather permitting,” said City Project Engineer Kirk Abbott.

The City’s Engineering and Capital Improvements Department is scheduled to begin construction to repair an aging waterline on Monday, Dec. 17, along E. Sessom Drive between Ed JL Green and Aquarena Springs Drive. The water main ruptured last year causing significant damage to the road.

Project contractor, Prota Construction of Austin, TX, will replace approximately 615 feet of water main in the roadway and under the Sessom Creek drainage culvert. This new line will diverge from the original water main which had previously passed through the culvert.

“Work on this project is expected to continue until the end of February 2019, weather permitting,” said City Project Engineer Kirk Abbott. “We coordinated the project start date with the Texas State Holiday Break in an effort to be good community partners with the timing of construction.”

Crews will begin work in the intersection of Sessom and Aquarena Springs Drive. During this phase, motorists can expect various lanes closures within the construction zone and traffic control personnel will be on site directing traffic. When construction proceeds up Sessom Drive, the roadway will be reduced to one lane each way on the west side of the road.
