San Marcos, TX – Brookfield Residential’s Kissing Tree community recently announced a historic landmark marker to celebrate the land’s rich history dating back to the 1840s.

At an event attended by various city officials and community leaders, Kissing Tree also celebrated its new entrance and extension of Centerpoint Road, a focal point of the 55-and-better baby boomer community in San Marcos.

As part of the celebration, the Texas Historical Commission revealed its plan for a marker at Kissing Tree that commemorates the history of the land, which began in 1847 with Hays County’s first residential development called Stringtown.

The houses strung along the stagecoach route from Austin to San Antonio led to its distinctive name.

In addition to the historical marker, the names of Kissing Tree’s buildings and hike and bike trails will pay tribute to Stringtown’s original settlers.

“Kissing Tree is proud of its rich history,” Dirk Gosda, president at Brookfield Residential Texas, said. “Stringtown was a viable community long before the development of San Marcos, despite lacking urban amenities. We believe it’s important to remember and celebrate the heritage of the area, and we have thoughtfully incorporated that into Kissing Tree. We’re excited to showcase this new addition at the main entrance of the community.”

This history of the land will also be celebrated during the Heritage Association of San Marcos’ Heritage Home Tours on Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6, from noon to 5 p.m.

“The partnership between Kissing Tree, the City of San Marcos and Hays County has made this wonderful high-quality development possible,” Hays County Commissioner Will Conley said. “We look forward to our bright future together for years to come.”
