San Marcos Public Library To Highlight Parent, Children’s Events
San Marcos Public Library To Host Lego Mania, Growing Up Wild, Let’s Move And Art Club In September. For dates and times, see below.
Next week, the San Marcos Public Library will host several highlighted events for children as well as a Parenting and Play Workshop.
A variety of free programs are available to the community on a year-round basis; there are also seasonal programs, such as, the after school programs.
On Saturday, parents and caregivers are welcome to attend the parenting and play workshop. Participants will be guided in the process of making toys from everyday, household items.
Next weekend, the library will host it’s Fall Story Festival; kids of all ages are invited to the public library for a morning of seasonal stories and fun brought by the Texas State University Student Reading Council.
Several other events will take place over the course of the week for residents and children to enjoy.
Parenting and Play Workshop

Claudea Blythe MEd, CFLE will be guiding parents and caregivers in making toys from every day, household items at the San Marcos Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
Blythe has worked as a program developer and parent education specialist for over 15 years. She has a strong interest in early childhood development and the vital role that parents play in the early developmental stages of life. Blythe works with parents in both group and private settings to encourage strong parent-child interaction, bonding, and developmental growth.
Gain valuable tips that guide parenting through play though guided, age-related toy-making stations. All supplies will be provided for this workshop. Have fun together with your preschooler learning to make handmade toys!
Participants will learn the critical role of play in early childhood development and its impact on learning, particularly early literacy and school readiness. The program will focus on techniques for using homemade toys to promote and expand play, as well as methods to encourage caregivers to provide enjoyable play experiences for and with their children. Caregivers will identify different types of play and acquire knowledge of varying age-appropriate play.
Fall Story Festival at San Marcos Public Library

Kids of all ages are invited to the public library for a morning of seasonal stories and fun brought by the Texas State University Student Reading Council.
This not-so-scary celebration is perfect for preschool-aged children, and older children will enjoy crafts and face painting. Wear your costume! It’s a treat for all ages. All activities at the festival are free of charge, and because it is an indoor event, it goes on rain or shine.
This year’s festival will also feature a musical performance of a classic Halloween story accompanied by live violin music at 11 a.m.
The Student Reading Council, along with their faculty advisor, Dr. Gwynne Ash, plan the festival activities and volunteer their time to work with children and read stories on the day of the festival.
The Student Reading Council was founded to promote literacy in our community, and its members present read-aloud events twice a year at the library.

Musical Storyshare Events at San Marcos Public Library
Bring music into your child’s life with special thematic performances of stories accompanied by live violin music. A different story will be performed at 11 a.m. at each of the following events:

- Fall Story Festival on Saturday, Oct. 27
- Storytime on Friday, Nov. 2

Passport to Reading Monthly Book Chat

Join us for a relaxed hour of book discussion at our monthly Book Chat program on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. If you are participating in the Library’s Passport to Reading, an adult reading group, then come and talk about what you read for this month’s challenge. October’s Passport to Reading challenge is to read something off of one of the Library’s book displays.
