San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter Places First Group Of Cats From Buda Animal Cruelty Case Up For Adoption

In November, the Hays County Sheriff’s office responded to an inhumane treatment of animals call in Buda, Texas. Officials made contact of the occupants of a home in the 200 block of Towhee Dr in Buda, TX and identified 161 cats and 15 dogs in various states of health.

The Hays County Sheriff’s animal control officers removed the animals, who were placed in the care of the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. 

On Monday, December 10, the shelter announced that 35 of the cats seized by Animal Control officers have tested negative for Histoplasmosis and are eligible for adoption.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and donated much needed items to the shelter.”

All cats that receive negative test results and have been spayed or neutered will be immediately available for adoption at the shelter and online at www.sanmarcostx.gov/animaladoptions.

The remaining cats from the cruelty seizure are awaiting their second round of test results, undergoing continued medical treatment or are scheduled for spaying or neutering. Once spayed and neutered, the cats will be eligible for adoption. 

On December 5, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office arrested the suspects in the animal cruelty case.

Adoption Special

To encourage adoption of these lovable animals, the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is holding a $5 cat adoption special from Monday, December 10, until Saturday, December 15. All adoptions include the animal’s spay or neuter, microchip, rabies vaccination, kennel vaccinations, and city license.
