San Marcos To Hold Special Meetings On Playscape, Master Plan

The playscape at Children’s Park will be 25 years old in November and has aged beyond its 20-year life expectancy.

The City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will hold a special meeting regarding the Children’s Park and Playscape project on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the San Marcos Rec Hall, 170 Charles Austin Dr.

A presentation of the updated playground design will be given by Marc Leathers, president of Leathers & Associates, Inc., the firm that designed the original playscape and is now working on the new design. Residents are invited to provide their feedback at the meeting. The playscape at Children’s Park will be 25 years old in November and has aged beyond its 20-year life expectancy.

“Marc is the son of the playscape’s original designer,” said Parks Operations Manager Bert Stratemann. “He has worked hard to maintain the magical feel of the original playground while updating it to be inclusive of all children with different needs and abilities.”

Master Plan

On Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, from 6 –  7:45 p.m., the City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department will hold a town hall meeting to discuss updates to the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins. The public is invited to come learn, provide feedback, and collaborate with others on the future of San Marcos open spaces.

Survey

The Parks and Recreation Department is also seeking input via an online survey. Visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/SanMarcosParks to take the survey. Hard copies of the survey will be available at the San Marcos Activity Center. Complete the survey by Nov. 8 to be entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes: one-year individual membership to the San Marcos Activity Center; a Rio Vista Fun Prize Pack including a propane grill, grill utensils, a waterproof phone pouch, and sunglasses; or a Greenspace Hiking Prize Pack including a hydration backpack, hiking pole, and sunglasses.
