Hays County Officially Calls For Special Meeting For Election Items
Hays County Commissioners officially called for a special meeting for Monday, August 19 at 5 PM on the 3rd floor Commissioners Courtroom, to allow the public to to review the recently removed items from Tuesday’s agenda.

This will be an official Special Meeting & Public Workshop to discuss selection of election Judges and Alternate Judges, Vote Centers for Early Voting and Election Day, and other related subjects may also be addressed.
A hand full of Hays County citizens recently accused the elections office and the commissioners of not having enough polling location for under-represented minority voting locations.
A Polling Place Study group that chose the proposed polling locations was formed with the following individuals serving:
- Alicia Ramirez – City of Buda
- Jennifer Vetrano – City of Kyle
- Jamie Lee Case – City of San Marcos
- Mayor Jane Hughson – City of San Marcos
- Laura Calcote – City of Wimberley
- Andrea Cunningham – City of Dripping Springs
- Sheila Lamb – Dripping Springs ISD
- Dottie Busby – Wimberley ISD
- Karen Griffin – San Marcos CISD
- Tim Savoy – Hays CISD
- Sandra Tenorio – Texas Rural Communities
The group met several times to discuss potential polling places throughout the county. They established criteria based on literature of prescribed criteria for vote center voting, as well as, individualized criteria for Hays County demographics. Attached you will find a list of polling places recommended for the upcoming November 2019 Constitution Amendment election.
Once approved, the Elections Office will publicize these locations in the paper, as well as at any public meetings we participate in. In addition, we will send out notices to our registered voters, and post notices on Election Day at the sites we are no longer using. These lists will also be included in all jurisdictions election notices.
Potential polling locations have been selected by a committee that includes representatives from jurisdictions that contract with the County for election services. Elections Administrator Jennifer Anderson will attend to answer questions.

The Hays County Commissioners Court approved the use of Vote Centers in March, and the request was subsequently officially approved by the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.
Beginning in November 2019, countywide voters will be able to vote at any polling place on Election Day, just as they can during Early Voting.
Potential polling locations have been selected by a committee that includes representatives from jurisdictions that contract with the County for election services.
The County will also introduce new voting equipment for the November election that includes a backup paper ballot to replace its current 2004-era voting machines.
