Buda Reminds Residents, Drivers New Speed Limit On Portion Of FM 2001

Staff Reports

The City of Buda released a reminder about a speed limit change that will affect drivers in Buda starting Wednesday, February 27, on FM 2001.

The Buda City Council recently adopted an ordinance amending the speed limit on a portion of FM 2001 within the Buda city limits.

The area of FM 2001 is considered a construction/maintenance work zone. The amended speed limit is due to the Old Goforth Road Improvements Project.

The maximum speed limit of 40 miles per hour will take effect in the construction zone on Wednesday, February 27. The construction zone starts just north of Reliance Drive (see map below), and the amended speed limit will remain in effect throughout the duration of the project.

The Old Goforth Road Improvements Project includes dedicated left and right turn lanes at Tom Green Elementary, intersection safety improvements at FM 2001, increased pedestrian connectivity between the subdivisions and school, and aesthetic improvements.

Traffic fines in construction work zones in Texas double when workers present. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, in 2017, there were 27,148 work zone crashes in Texas, resulting in 199 fatalities and another 813 serious injuries; while many TxDOT workers are injured or killed in work zones, it’s motorists that make up 82 percent of work zone fatalities.
