Keeping your kids occupied is not always an easy task, especially when you are camping and out in the wild.

Not every day is going to be suitable for hiking, and there will be a few where you just want to relax (but the kids don’t).

The best solution is to provide them with a few board games that they might enjoy. It should keep them busy for a few hours so that you can chill out.

However, some of the games we have listed here are ones that you could definitely join in with if you wanted to.

#1 Travel Board Games

Board games are classics when it comes to entertainment, and the travel-sized editions are the best to take camping with you due to their compact size and intelligent storage containers.

Games like Battleship are the best to bring with you, but there are also travel editions of many four-player games that you will be able to find in toy stores and other retailers for reasonable prices.

Whatever you do, just don’t pick up a copy of Monopoly if you want everyone to get along!

#2 Scavenger Hunt

These really get the kids to connect with nature on a deeper level, and they are also a lot of fun. Give your kids a list of leaves, insects, and flowers (or other items of your choosing) that they need to go and collect from around the campsite, or while you are out hiking.

For every item they collect, they put a mark next to it on the list until they have found them all.

If you want to do birds and animals, you can make it so that they put a mark down once they have spotted it. They help bring everyone together, and you can even give them a little reward when they finish.

#3 Obstacle Course

These are great fun for everyone, and they are quite easy to do. You can either bring your own items from home to create it, or use things from nature that are at your site – like fallen logs and such.

The difficulty of the course it up to you and the age of your kids – some people prefer hula-hoop rings for younger kids to crawl through, others like to go all out with jumps.

Either way, it is something that both adults and kids alike can enjoy.

#4 Making Fairy Houses

This is a lot of fun, and it also requires using nature. You can find a hollow tree log or stump, fill it with earth, and then construct little homes using fallen twigs and leaves.

They can be really pretty when you take the time to do it with your kids, and you can also use flowers for further decorations.

For full authenticity, we suggest finding a hollow tree/stump with some non-toxic mushrooms growing around it.

#5 Ring Toss

This is another camping classic, and one that the whole family can enjoy. All you need it a post (or a stump) and a set of rings to try and get over it.

The person who gets the most rings over the post wins. It doesn’t take long to set up, and the game can go for hours if the kids really enjoy it.

Hopefully, this has given you some good ideas for how to entertain your kids when you are off camping this summer.

Whether you want some time at the campsite or the bad weather had decided to pay a visit, you are sure to be prepared to keep them happy and prevent the dreaded boredom from kicking in.
