The San Marcos High School’s delegates to 2016 Bluebonnet Girls State Program were recently announced. Margie Villalpando, Girls State Chair, made the announcement.

San Marcos High School juniors Natalie Flores, Celeste Sowell, and Nicole Valdez have been named the school’s representatives to 2016 Bluebonnet Girls State, set for June 12-18, at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. The Girls State sponsorships are provided by Mrs. Loretta Eiben, Frost Bank, and the Tom Garner Memoriam, respectfully, through the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 144 in San Marcos.

Girls State is, according to the state website, “a mythical 51st state where, for one week, participants or “citizens” organize their own city, county, and state governments. They elect their own officers and learn the duties of the various city, county, or state offices.”

As the week closes, Girls State citizens visit the state capitol in Austin and meet state officials.

The citizens of Girls State are made up of excellent high school students from across the state that have the demonstrated fundamental qualifications of leadership, citizenship, and character in their schools and community.
