SMCISD Welcomes Monica Ruiz-Mills As AST

Monica Ruiz-Mills began her new role as San Marcos CISD Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning and Assessment on July 11, 2016. She comes from the San Antonio area with 27 years of teaching and administrative experience with public schools. She began her career as assistant band director and head band director for schools in the North East ISD and Alamo Heights ISD.

 

Ruiz-Mills joined administration when she served as the Assistant Principal for Instruction at Lee High School in North East ISD in 2012-2014. Since August 2014, she has been the Curriculum and Instruction Fine Arts Coordinator at Harlandale ISD where she co-authored the District Improvement Plan with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, monitored 52 Fine Arts teachers/programs, implemented summer programs, supported principals,  oversaw booster clubs and parent organizations, and much more.

 

She earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is currently working toward her Ph.D. in School Improvement at Texas State University.

 

Ruiz-Mills said, “I am excited to be part of the SMCISD as we work together with all stakeholders to provide a quality education for our students.”
