San Marcos Native Needs Community’s Help
Rosemary Suniga has lived in San Marcos for nearly all of her life. While here she and her family have done so much for the community; Ramon Lucio Park is named after one of her family members. Rosemary is devoted to the betterment of San Marcos and the corridor. She is the Senior Research Director for the Greater San Marcos Partnership, and volunteers her time as the Vice President of PALS.
Nearly a month ago she was hit by a Texas State University bus while crossing the street on the square; read the story here. I am saddened to know that she is unable to get the therapy she needs in order to get better. We are looking into reasons why the insurance company refuses to pay for her therapy and will provide updates on what we find out.
In the mean time, she needs our help. Below is a letter from Adriana Cruz, President of the Greater San Marcos Partnership, with an update on Rosemary and how you can help her.
Dear San Marcos and the Corridor,
Thanks to all of you who have called to check on Rosemary and for continuing to keep her in your prayers. Here is the latest information we’ve received from her family.
Rosemary continues to make progress – she’s able to stand up and take a few steps with a little help, she’s talking a little more and can open up and read the cards that so many have sent to her. We learned that she has been transferred from Brackenridge to Regent Care Center here in San Marcos. The family is working with her insurance through the state to try and get her into Texas Neurology, as they have an excellent brain injury program so that she can continue to improve. Her sister, Carol, said that her memory is getting stronger and her fighting spirit is as strong as ever!
As for how you can help support Rosemary and her family, here’s some information.
- You can send cards/flowers (or visits) to room 401 at Regent Care Center of San Marcos, 1351 Sadler Drive (map) 512.805.5000. Please send any inspirational messages you can send — pictures of you and Rosemary at events (to help her memory), pictures of you and your pets, motivational quotes etc. Please don’t send any food.
- To help with medical expenses not covered by insurance, GSMP staff has set up a GoFundMe account here. This will be a longer recovery period than we anticipated, so anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.
