SAN MARCOS – Texas State, fresh off matching the best conference record by a Sun Belt team in the last 40 years, learned its path in the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship as the conference office released the 10-team bracket for the six-day tournament.
The regular-season champion and No. 1 seeded Bobcats will play either No. 8 Little Rock, No. 9 App State or No. 10 ULM in their first game on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. They will learn their exact opponent on Tuesday evening, the first day of the tournament at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.
Tuesday’s schedule includes No. 7 seed Georgia State vs. No. 10 seed ULM at 3 pm and No. 8 seed Little Rock vs. No. 9 seed App State at 6:30 pm.
All games played on Tuesday are single elimination. The lower-seeded first round winner will advance to play Texas State while the higher-seeded first round winner will face No. 2 seed Georgia Southern.
Games played Wednesday through Saturday are double elimination.
The winner-takes-all Championship Game will take place on Sunday, May 29 at 1 pm.
Texas State’s result on Wednesday will determine who and what time it plays on Thursday, May 26. If the Bobcats win their opening game, they would play the winner of No. 4 seed Louisiana and No. 5 seed South Alabama at 7:30 pm. If they lose, they will play the loser of Louisiana/South Alabama at 12:30 pm.
If Texas State wins its first two games, it will not play Friday and resume action on Saturday at 12:30 pm. If it wins on Wednesday but loses Thursday, it will play on Friday at 6:30 pm.
A win on Friday, if necessary, will advance the Bobcats to the 12:30 pm game on Saturday. In this scenario, Texas State would need a win in the first game on Saturday to force a game on Saturday evening with a chance to advance to Sunday’s championship game out of the loser’s bracket.
All tournament games will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as heard on TXST.com and the Varsity Network, with Brant Freeman on the call.
Tickets for all games are also available here.
The Bobcats, who have won a program-record 44 games this year, last entered the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed in 2019. They have never won the Sun Belt postseason tournament but last won a conference tournament in 2011 as a member of the Southland. The Bobcats have won a conference championship tournament three times in program history (Southland: 1999, 2000, 2011).
Last year, No. 1 South Alabama won the Sun Belt championship tournament.
