Texas State Dance and Theater Department is kicking off the New Year with Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize winning play ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ starting Tuesday, February 17th.

The play, written in 1947, is considered by most to be Williams’ most beloved and known plays due to its popularity on the stage over the years and the movie adaptation starring Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh in 1951. A Streetcar Named Desire was given a fresh twist in the mid-1990s when it was reimagined as an opera, and now will be brought to life on the Texas State stage.

Streetcar will be directed by Texas State University’s Head of Acting Michael Costello. Michael has a notable career on the stage and has appeared in over 30 films and television shows, including his role as Jim in the Emmy award winning TV movie Temple Grandin.

Running at two hours, Streetcar will run for seven days with one 7:30 pm showing every night and a 2 pm matinee on Saturday and Sunday at Texas State’s brand-new Patti Strickel Harrison Theatre.

Tickets are $15 dollars per person for non-students and $8 dollars for students plus a $2 processing fee. Tickets can be purchased online at the Texas State Presents website or at the box office door Monday through Friday 12 pm to 5 pm.  The Texas State Theatre recommends that tickets be purchased online because seats are known to sell out quickly, so we included a link to purchase online here!

Parking for the play is located in the Edward Gary Street Garage, on the corner of University Drive and Edward Gary Street for a flat fee of $5.00. PLEASE NOTE: The garage attendant will only accept cash.

See you at the Theatre!
