Texas Border: CBP Seize $10M In Narcotics, Arrest Seven Gang Members And Six Child Sex Offenders

This is our home, and to most Texans, the border isn’t a political issue or a tool to use against another political party; this is a safety and security issue, for us, our children, families, friends and our local and national law enforcement…

by Melissa Jewett, Publisher

NOTE: Due to the lack of information that is currently available from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, we reached out and were informed that protecting the border is their first priority; currently, they are heavily involved in caravan operations as portions of the caravan have reached the Texas Border. Therefore, we expect what information we receive will be minimal for the time being.

Below you will find the latest information available for reported drug smuggling, human trafficking and illegal crossings that have occurred on the Texas border and ports over the week of November 8 – November 14, 2018.

It has been published by many news outlets around the country that the criminal activity on our Texas-Mexico border has been consistently dropping over the last couple of years, and Americans and Texans have been given inconsistent information on what is occurring on our border.

Our U.S. border issues are complex, and they affect all Texans. This is our home, and to most Texans, the border isn’t a political issue or a tool to use against another political party; this is a safety and security issue for us, our children, families, friends and our local and national law enforcement.

As you read below, we hope the information provided will help all Texans to better understand the problems happening on our southern border and what we need to do to repair our current immigration laws and policies that stem from our lawmakers in D.C.

However, to better understand if these are real problems or just political bloviation concerning our southern border with drug smuggling, human trafficking of children and adults, unaccompanied children and illegal immigrant crossings that include gang members and many from terrorist countries, we need the real numbers, facts and statistics.

Texas isn’t the only state that shares a border with Mexico. Therefore, as you read our weekly report below, remember this information is only what is occurring on the Texas-Mexico border and Texas ports.

This information has been gathered and compiled directly from information given to us by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which is under the purview of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

As for the accuracy of the information we are providing to you, we can only decipher the information that is released to us. Therefore, the number of incidents, arrests, types of narcotics, weight or the street value of said narcotics is considered the minimum amount.

We give the totals of illegal crossing arrests, including their nationality, drug seizures including weight and “street value” totals, current charges or convictions of those apprehended and other items to help all of us make educated decisions. Additionally, we include links to our other weekly border stories.

All people apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure their criminal histories are positively identified. To report suspicious activity such as alien and/or drug smuggling, contact their website at http://www.cbp.gov. Or follow them on Twitter at @CBPRGV.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and to help save lives by reporting suspicious activity at 1-800-863-9382.

EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped several narcotic smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of more than a ton of marijuana over the weekend.

On Saturday morning, Rio Grande City agents responded to the report of a narcotic smuggling attempt near La Grulla, Texas. Responding agents searched along the Rio Grande for any evidence of an illegal entry.

While patrolling, agents located an abandoned motorized scooter pulling a garden trailer loaded with 20 bundles of marijuana. The marijuana weighed 230 pounds, worth an estimated $183K.

Meth-filled waffle cones valued at $39,900 was seized at IAH. | Photo by U.S. Customs and Border Protection

HOUSTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) were inspecting cargo shipments of foodstuff when they made a sweet discovery, Nov. 27.

Tucked inside candy waffle cones was 11.7 pounds of methamphetamine valued at about $39,900.

CBP officers were conducting x-rayed examinations of arriving cargo when they noticed an anomaly within a shipment of hard candies arriving from Mexico.

Once they opened the bag of candies, they found a white, crystalline substance hidden inside the waffle cones.

Testing of the crystalline substance indicated a positive result for methamphetamine.

“Our agency is committed to detecting and preventing dangerous narcotics from entering our nation’s border,” said Houston Area Port Director Raymond S. Polley. “This seizure is particularly meaningful as the narcotic filled candy could have ended up in the hands of children.”

Methamphetamine is a Schedule II drug and has a high potential for abuse. CBP officers seized five large bags of candy, which contained the narcotics that were destined for Houston.

On a typical day in fiscal year 2017, CBP seized 5,863 pounds of narcotics and disrupted 222 pounds of narcotics.

Border Wall Gate Construction Project to Begin in Texas

November 30, 2018

WASHINGTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, awarded a contract to construct border wall gates in the U.S. Border Patrol’s (USBP) Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector, which was funded in CBP’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 appropriation.

The contract for the first phase of gate construction was awarded on October 3, 2018 to Gideon Contracting, LLC, from San Antonio, Texas in the amount of $3,731,380 for the seven base gates.

The contract includes options for four additional gates valued at $1,985,525. Construction for the first seven gates is scheduled to begin November 30, 2018.

Gate construction includes the installation of 35 automated border wall gates, associated equipment, and site improvements at current openings in the existing pedestrian wall alignment in the USBP RGV Sector. The gates are within the area of responsibility of the Fort Brown, Brownsville, and Harlingen Border Patrol Stations within Cameron County, Texas.

The gates will be located off the U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) levee at the end of or along existing levee ramps. Once installed, the gates will serve as a persistent impediment to smuggling organizations while still allowing river access for property owners, USBP, other local/state/federal officials, and local emergency responders.

The RGV Sector remains an area of high illegal cross border activity.  In FY 2017, USBP apprehended over 137,000 illegal aliens and seized approximately 260,000 pounds of marijuana and approximately 1,192 pounds of cocaine in the RGV Sector.

CBP continues to implement President Trump’s Executive Order 13767 – also known as Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements – and continues to take steps to expeditiously plan, design, and construct a physical wall using appropriate materials and technology to most effectively achieve complete operational control of the southern border.

WASHINGTON—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced a new formal collaboration with Cisco today as part of the Donations Acceptance Program.

Under its partnership with CBP, Cisco is donating barcode scanner devices as well as providing secured access to purpose-built tooling so that CBP officers and import specialists may quickly scan and verify the authenticity of Cisco merchandise entering the United States.

CBP and Cisco have deployed these tools to a limited number of international mail and express consignment facilities to confirm functionality and address technical issues, if any, before implementing on a larger scale.

One such facility used the donated scanner/tooling suite during a special operation in August to seize 147 counterfeit Cisco-branded products, with a total MSRP of $958,375.

CBP and Cisco are currently exploring additional locations for further deployment.

The Donations Acceptance Program broadly enables CBP to accept donations of real property, personal property (including monetary donations), and non-personal services from public and private sector entities in support of CBP operations.

Accepted donations may be used for port of entry construction, alterations, operations, and maintenance activities.
