The San Marcos Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (SMCPAAA) held its Jailbird Lock Up Fundraiser Wednesday, October 10, at Kent Black’s BBQ. This year, there were 15 jailbirds who participated.

Participants were transported from the San Marcos Police Department (SMPD), via the Caiman Rescue vehicle, to Kent Black’s BBQ where friends and associates paid “bail” money for their release. The SMCPAAA raised over $7,000 during this event.

The proceeds of the fundraiser will go towards emergency supplies for “Go Buckets,” which will be distributed throughout the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District (SMCISD), as well as purchasing packable breaching tools for police officers.

“In the event of a natural disaster or an active shooting event, emergency equipment like the packable breaching tools are invaluable and can help save lives,” said Laray Taylor, a corporal at the San Marcos Police Department.

Some of the funds raised will also be used in preparation for the Texas State Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association Convention, which SMCPAAA will be hosting in 2019.
