SAN MARCOS – Texas State beat Louisiana-Monroe in 2020 (38-17), and the Bobcats are favored to win again this year.

Texas State football (2-6 overall, 1-3 SBC) will play the University of Louisiana-Monroe (4-4 overall, 2-3 SBC) for their Homecoming game, Nov. 6, 2021.

After losing to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette (45-0), the Bobcats have the ability to flip the narrative against the Lousiana-Monroe Warhawks.

The Warhawks are currently second in the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference.

The Warhawks have depth at the quarterback position. Despite two additional transfers with starting experience, the Warhawks have played freshman quarterback Chandler Rogers the most. Rogers’ pass completion against Appalachian State hit a low 40%, but his overall pass completion percentage is almost 62%.

The Warhawks leading defensive player is senior linebacker Travelon Webster totaling 58 tackles, followed by junior linebacker Zach Woodard with 54 tackles.

Louisiana-Monroe’s linebacker unit has a lot of experience.

Texas State is expecting a solid defense from Louisiana-Monroe. Freshman linebacker Issiah Nixon says the goal for the Bobcat defense is to focus and play together.

Head Coach Jake Spavital says it’s going to be a challenging and exciting game for the Bobcats.

“We just have to keep the mindset of executing and playing with intention and purpose,” Spavital said.

The Warhawks’ is led by a new head coach, Terry Bowden, the son of recently deceased Bobby Bowden, a longtime coach at Florida State University. Their offensive coordinator, Rich Rodriguez, is a former Arizona/Michigan/West Virginia head coach and was the last offensive coordinator for Ole Miss, a Power 5 school in 2019.

An experienced coaching staff paired with a team of experienced players will make a tough, competitive game for the Bobcats this weekend.

Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
