Texas State Men’s Basketball Inks Tyler Blount

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men’s basketball team announced the signing of Tyler Blount to a National Letter of Intent for the 2016-17 season on Friday. He is the fourth spring signee for the Bobcats and the sixth overall.
“Tyler is going to be a great addition to our program. He is an excellent shooter and first team all-conference for New Mexico Junior College in a tough JUCO league,” said Kaspar. “He can play some point guard for us and we look forward to him helping us compete for a conference title.”
Blount arrives in San Marcos after playing the last two seasons at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico. This season, the 5-foot, 11-inch guard helped lead the Thunderbirds to a 21-10 record and a quarterfinals appearance in the NJCAA Region V Tournament.
He averaged 15.0 points per game on 45.0 percent shooting, nailed 43.8 percent of his three-point attempts with 85 makes and finished with an 87.3 free throw percentage. Blount also produced 2.1 assists and 2.0 rebounds per contest on his way to earning All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference First Team honors.
Before arriving at NMJC, Blount attended Green Run High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His senior year saw him named first team All-Tidewater and All-Group 5A after averaging 19 points and three steals per game. He also made 88 three-pointers that season and finished with 236 in his career.
Joining Blount in this year’s signing class are Marlin Davis, Deris Duncan, Immanuel King, Nijal Pearson and Nedeljko Prijovic.
