Texas State University Police Department Investigates Sexual Assault On Campus

Texas State University Police Department announced an investigation into a sexual assault on campus, which occurred on December 1 at a university residence complex.

According to UPD, officers responded to a delayed report of a non-stranger sexual assault Tuesday, December 4. The victim is reported to have been a Texas State Student.

No description of the suspect was released. However, UPD did say the assailant was not a Texas State student.

The University Police Department released the following danger signals often exhibited by sexual offenders to help students and members of the community.

• Individuals who exhibit controlling behaviors
• Individuals who become angry when personal limits regarding physical intimacy are set
• Individuals who ignore personal limits set by others
• Individuals who deliberately and repeatedly ignore personal limits set by others and continue to make sexual advances
• Individuals who disrespect others who are intoxicated

“Sexual assault is not the fault of the victim. Only a perpetrator can prevent sexual assault. While a university is required under the Clery Act to notify the public of such reports, it is also our responsibility to provide information regarding protective measures.”

The Clery Act is a federal statute requiring colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs to maintain and disclose campus crime statistics and security information.
