Nature Center Offers ‘Second Chance’ Native Plant Sale

San Marcos Nature Center: The Nature Center offers adult education programs about gardening and sustainable living. They have many popular youth environmental education programs teaching kids about science, conservation, and responsible stewardship. The Center promotes the use of native plant landscaping as a water conservation method as well as creating backyard habitat for wildlife.
People wishing to improve their landscaping with hardy, beautiful native plants have a second chance to purchase them Saturday, April 4 at the San Marcos Nature Center, 430 Riverside Drive (the corner of IH-35 and Riverside Drive.)
Much-needed rain put a damper on last Saturday’s Native Plant Sale, and there are many plants left in stock.
“Native plants are perfectly suited for our hot Texas summers and over time will use less water than non-native species,” said Jenna Winters, San Marcos Nature Center Coordinator. “All proceeds from these sales go into educational programming at the San Marcos Nature Center, so the money goes right back into the community to teach people about our river.”
Plants for sale include:
  • Assorted Salvia greggii and lantana are available for $5 per 1 gallon pot, or buy six for $25.
  • Select one-gallon pots are 3/$10.
  • Mexican plum and Texas wisteria back in stock, and Mexican buckeye are in bloom!
  • Clearance table and plenty of butterfly- friendly plants are available, so you can have swallowtails in your garden too!
