On February 7, the Hays County Soil and Water Conservation District will host the Grounds Maintenance Conference and Pesticide License CEU Course at the San Marcos Rec Hall, 170 Charles Austin Drive, San Marcos, Texas..

The Pesticide Workshop, or Grounds Maintenance Conference, is held annually and sponsored by the Hays County SWCD Board of Directors.

The event started in 2018 and is a continuation of an event organized by the AgriLife Extension Service. The workshop will feature speakers from the Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Texas Soil and Water Conservation board.

The speakers will discuss requirements and safety for applying pesticides, identifying and treating plant diseases and nonpoint source pollution in waterways.

In order to receive full Continuing Education Hours, participants will be required to attend the event for the full day, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Participants will also be required to have their applicator’s license number.

The event is open to anyone interested in conservation and land management. However, there is a pre-registration fee of $50. Those interested in participating can send registration fee to 326 Cheatham Street Suite 102 or pay $50 at the door.

Participants should RSVP by Feb. 1 by contacting hayscounty@swcd.texas.gov. Registration fee will be due at the door if not paid in advance.

“We are putting on the Grounds Maintenance Conference for the convenience of people in the area that have commercial and non-commercial pesticide applicator’s licenses which usually require five continuing education hours that must be renewed every year,” said Cliff Caskey, Hays County Soil and Water Conservation District Treasurer/Secretary.
