City crews will begin trimming trees on Hopkins St. Monday, June 11 to allow electric utility crews to replace utility poles between Bishop and Moore Streets.

The tree trimming will be done under the supervision of the City’s urban forester, and the utility work is scheduled to last from June 11 – 22.  The work is in preparation for the Hopkins Street Improvements between Bishop and Moore Streets, scheduled to begin in the fall of 2019.

Traffic plan

While crews are trimming trees and replacing the utility poles, there will be intermittent lane and road closures around the areas where the utility work is in progress. Flaggers will direct traffic around the work areas, and detour signs will be posted as needed.

In late June, San Marcos Electric Utility crews will install an underground vault for electrical transmission equipment near the intersection of Hopkins and Mitchell, causing a half block of Mitchell Street to be closed west of Hopkins from June 22 – 29.

Project

The Hopkins Street Improvements from Bishop to Moore Streets will replace existing water and wastewater infrastructure, add a drainage system to improve storm water runoff, and reconstruct the street with curbs and sidewalks. A public meeting will be scheduled in July to give an overall project update and allow residents to view the proposed improvements.
