PEC Awards Over $25,000 In Community Grants

JOHNSON CITY, Texas — In just four years, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) has helped 47 area nonprofits fulfill their missions by distributing more than $190,000 in funding through their Community Grants program.

These grants are funded exclusively by PEC members through the Power of Change program, which allows members to round up their electric bill to the nearest dollar for charity.

Recently, PEC awarded over $25,000 to six deserving organizations. Due to restrictions relating to COVID-19, PEC was unable to hold its traditional grants reception; however, grant funds were quickly sent to the named recipients so they can continue their important work keeping our communities strong during these challenging times.

“When times are tough, we know our members rely on organizations like these to make it through,” PEC Community Relations Coordinator Caroline Tinsley Porter said. “We are thankful to have hard-working nonprofits committed to making our communities better places to live for all of us, and PEC is proud to help them do their important work.”

The Onion Creek Senior Center in Buda serves approximately 19,700 seniors in Hays, Travis, and Caldwell counties, and is organized to meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of elderly and disabled persons.

With a $1,600 PEC grant, the center will purchase a smart TV to assist with continued education and activities.
