TRAFFIC ALERT: I-35 Mainlanes And Oltorf Street To Close For Bridge Construction
AUSTIN – TxDOT will close I-35 at Oltorf Street in alternating directions Monday through Thursday nights, while crews and cranes lift and place large beams for a new Oltorf Street bridge.
The I-35 mainlanes will be closed and traffic detoured to the frontage roads at exit 232A beginning at 9 p.m., with full mainlane closures from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Monday through Thursday nights, Aug. 14 through 17, weather permitting.
The closure will affect southbound motorists on Monday and Tuesday nights and northbound motorists on Wednesday and Thursday nights. In addition, both directions of Oltorf Street over I-35 will close beginning at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The I-35 mainlanes and Oltorf Street will reopen daily as work is completed.
Drivers wishing to cross I-35 at Oltorf Street during the closure will be detoured to Woodward Street and Woodland Avenue.
Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the closure. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes, as delays are expected. TxDOT asks the traveling public to be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.
The I-35 at Oltorf Street Project will improve mobility, safety, and connectivity for all modes of transportation along and across I-35. Work includes improving entrance/exit ramps and lanes, adding U-turn lanes at the Oltorf Street bridge, and bicycle and pedestrian enhancements.
Work on the $40 million project is expected to continue through winter 2019/2020, weather permitting. The contractor is OHL USA, Inc.
