BREAKING: San Marcos Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing

San Marcos police are investigating a fatal stabbing that claimed the life of a San Marcos man early this morning.
Jesse Cavazos (DOB 10/08/74) died this morning at University Medical Center – Brackenridge after suffering multiple stab wounds on Thursday, Sept. 24 at a residence in the 100 block of Kingwood Street.
Officers were called to the residence at 1:19 a.m. on a report of a physical disturbance. A caller inside the residence advised dispatchers that two males were fighting in the living room and the caller was locked inside a bedroom.
While officers were en route to the incident, the caller advised that the situation was escalating and weapons were involved.
The first officer on scene found Cavazos injured with multiple stab wounds. Cavazos was transported unconscious to UMC-Brackenridge. He remained unconscious through the weekend and passed away this morning.
Several persons at the residence were interviewed the night of the incident. One subject fled from the residence and was apprehended by patrol officers and K9.  The subject, a 24-year-old male, was arrested on unrelated charges but has not yet been charged with Cavazos’ death.
The investigation remains active.
This homicide is the fourth to occur in San Marcos this year:
  • Earl Edward Clark III was shot during a drug deal in January.  His attacker, Cyrus Amaya, committed suicide in Lockhart when officers went to his residence to arrest him.
  • In early June, Benjamin H. Chamness, Jr. shot his wife Joy Elam Chamness and then himself at Central Texas Medical Center.
  • Also in June, Joel Anthony Espino was shot during a home invasion. The offenders sought out his residence for drugs and money. Six offenders were indicted in September and are awaiting trial.
