Waste Management Plan To Address Storm Debris

The City of San Marcos has plans in place to remove trash and debris from City neighborhoods as quickly as possible. Storm debris removal will begin this week and end November 15.

The City is asking residents to sort trash/debris into several piles.
  • Building materials like sheetrock, wood, and insulation placed at the curb.
  • Household hazardous waste should be separated and placed at the curb for pickup.
  • Large appliances and metal should be placed separately as well and taped closed.
  • Regular trash, recycling and green waste will be picked up on regular collection days.
  • Once the City and its contractors have tackled the larger job of debris and hazardous waste removal we will work toward replacing lost and damaged containers.  **As a precaution recyclable materials in flooded areas will not be recycled, but will be included with regular trash disposal.
Brush Drop-Off
The City of San Marcos hosts monthly brush drop-off (weather permitting) on the second Saturday of each month at 750 River Road for San Marcos residential garbage and recycling service customers.  The next event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14.

Household Hazardous Waste
The City of San Marcos hosts collections for household hazardous waste at the City Hall traffic yard (630 E. Hopkins–across from the big HEB) on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon until 3:30 p.m.
The facility accepts, among other things:
  • drain cleaners
  • degreasers
  • paints
  • fluorescent lights
  • cell phones
  • batteries
  • weed killers
  • Sharps
The facility does not accept tires, medical waste (other than sharps), compressed gas, waste generated by business, pharmaceuticals, cylinders or computers/TV’s.
