Vortex, Inc. Begins Work On Green Meadows Splash Pad

“We will start seeing some progress. At first it will not seem like much is happening while the underground work is being done…” Vortex Project Manager, Joe Rushing said.

Vortex, Inc. is the City ‘s contractor for the project and will install the splash pad in Green Meadows. Our Public Works crew has been preparing the site over the past several weeks.

“They already have the subgrade done for us. We’re going to start installing the sand, clearing things off, making it level. We will begin running our plumbing, drainage, running all the lines for the actual spray features and the spray heads and installing everything that we need to get the splash pad running.”

The splash pad contains over 19 features, including water tunnels, directional spray jets, geysers, and other large amenities.

Vortex has installed over 6,000 splash pads in 35 countries.

“It is something we have a lot of experience in and we have been doing it for a while. We love doing it. We usually shoot between two or three weeks to be done with the actual work, pending any delays like rain.”

There will be at least five inspections throughout the installation process to make sure everything is right. Public Works will build the restroom on the site. Operations and maintenance of the splash pad will be done exclusively by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Water for the splash pad will come from the Goforth Water SUD. The water will be treated by sand filters, chlorine and UV to ensure a clean water supply.

The splash pad is only operational when user activated through a push button system. Staff has the control over setting operational hours and features to ensure efficient use of utility costs.

  1. I wonder if this “water feature” is allowed to run when drought water restrictions prohibit the running of water features?

  2. oh, nevermind … I see this is Buda not San Marcos. Apparently Buda has no water shortage like San Marcos does.
