Texas State Women’s Soccer Travels to Face South Alabama and Troy

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women’s soccer team plays it final regular season road games this weekend with two pivotal matches in Sun Belt Conference play. First up is a 7 p.m. Friday contest at South Alabama at The Cage followed by a trip to Troy for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Entering the weekend, Texas State is 6-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference contests for a total of 10 points. The Bobcats are one of six teams that are currently tied for third in the league standings. The Jaguars are 9-4-1 on the season and 4-2-0 in the SBC while the Trojans are 6-6-3 and 2-2-2 in the league.
Last Time Out
Texas State surrendered a goal with just under five minutes left in regulation to fall to Arkansas State by the score of 1-0. It was the third loss in the last four games for the Bobcats, all by a 1-0 score line.

Freshman Jordan Kondikoff came off the bench to take a team-high five shots in the game. Kassi Hormuth, Maddie Nichols, Lauren Prater and Sarah Gavin all attempted two shots against the Red Wolves with Prater putting both of her shots on goal.

In goal, Heather Martin made three stops in the game and now has 49 saves for the season. Her save total places her in a tie for 10 with Hannah Phillips (2003) on the program’s career list.

On the program’s career minutes played list (since 2007), Maddie Nichols remains in sixth place having been on the pitch for 5,592 minutes. Ali Jones is now 10th with 5,234 minutes played.

Prater surpassed former teammate Tori Hale (2012-14) for ninth on the career shots list with her two attempts Sunday afternoon. She has now taken 124 shots in her career.

Scouting South Alabama
South Alabama enters Friday having lost two straight at home last week. The Jaguars fell to in-state rival Troy 1-0 and then dropped a 3-2 decision against UL Lafayette. At home this season, USA is 2-4-1 with victories against then No. 1-ranked Florida State and Georgia Southern.
Both Rio Hardy and Jemma Purfield have scored five goals this season to pace the team. Charde Hannah and Ashlyn Jones have netted three goals apiece and Danielle Henley has added two goals. Leading the team with five assists is Alexis Jordan while both Chelsea Followwell and Purfield have been credited with four assists each.

Justice Stanford has started 10 games in goal to help USA record an 87.0 save percentage and 0.619 GAA that ranked 14th and 23rd in the nation, respectively. She has a 0.50 GAA and an 87.8 save percentage having made 36 saves. Starting four games between the posts has been Sarah Hay, who has a 0.88 GAA, 85.2 save percentage and 23 saves.

The Jaguars are 3-0-1 all-time against Texas State. The USA has won the last two meetings by one goal apiece. The tie came on Sept. 27, 2013, in Mobile, Alabama by the score of 2-2, which was also the Bobcats first-ever Sun Belt Conference game. Nichols netted the tying goal with a little under six minutes left in regulation.

Scouting Troy
Troy has gone 2-4-3 since winning four of its first six games this season. The Trojans are tough at home having put together a 4-1-1 mark. Sunday’s game against Texas State will be Troy’s final home contest of the season.

Brooke McKee paces the team with four goals and 10 points. Abby Reynolds has tallied three goals and been credited with three assists prior to this weekend’s matches. Helping set them up for scores has been Haley Roberson with a team-high four assists. Both Alex Huynh and Kate Lorenz have been credited with two assists apiece.

In goal, Mikki Lewis has started 14 games and given up just 11 goals for a 0.78 GAA. She has also made 49 saves for an 81.7 save percentage.

The Bobcats have a slim 3-2 edge in the all-time series with all of the games taking place since Texas State joined the SBC in 2013. The Trojans have won the last two meetings. The Bobcats won the first three matchups with Troy with the last being a 2-0 win at home on Oct. 12, 2014. Every game that Texas State has won has seen them score two goals.
