Texas State improved to 4-0 in Sun Belt play as they knocked off the South Alabama Jaguars in three straight sets.

In the first set, the Bobcats jumped out to a 12-6 lead over the Jaguars and didn’t look back as they went on to take the set, 25-12. Kelsey Weynand, Shelby Vas Matt and Lauren Kirch gave the Bobcats a strong lift to combine for 10 kills, while the Bobcats as only committed 1 attacking error as a team.

The second set was more closely contested than the first. The Bobcats called a timeout trailing 14-11 and managed to close the gap to stay neck and neck with South Alabama. The set was eventually won by Texas State, 27-25. Sophomore outside hitter Keeley Davis lead the Bobcats in kills in the second set with six, while Senior defensive specialist Ali Gonzales had a set high nine assists.

Texas State carried the momentum of winning the first two sets into the third as they jumped on South Alabama and took the set 25-15.

On the game the Bobcats had five team blocks, nine aces and 63 digs.

“We took [South Alabama] out of their offense,” Coach Karen Chisum said after the game. “They’re a good passing team, fortunately for us they couldn’t get into their rhythm.”

The Bobcats next volleyball game will be on the road Saturday in Troy, Alabama as Texas State will face the Trojans for the first time this season and look to stay hot in conference play.
