Texas State Football announces 14 early summer newcomers

SAN MARCOS – Texas State football’s 2022 newcomer class grew by 14 on Thursday as head coach Jake Spavital announced the group of early summer arrivals.

The summer group of 14 includes 10 FBS transfers, two FCS transfers, a junior college transfer, and a high school signee. Of the 13 with college experience, they have combined to play in 152 career games and 137 at the FBS level.

From a position group standpoint, there are nine offensive players and five on the defensive side.

Ben Bell

OLB | 6-2, 240 | Louisiana Tech | Cedar Park (TX) HS | Cedar Park, Texas

Seasons of eligibility: 3

A 2021 All-Conference USA Freshman Team selection, Bell joins Texas State after spending the last two years at Louisiana Tech. A rising sophomore, he has played in 13 career games and totaled 30 total tackles (10 solo). Last year, he played in 10 games on the defensive line and led the team in sacks (3.0) and tied for third in tackles for loss (6.0). He is a graduate of Cedar Park (TX) High School and former three-star recruit who was named the 2019 District 11-5A DI Defensive MVP.

Levi Bell

DL | 6-1, 275 | Louisiana Tech | Cedar Park (TX) HS | Cedar Park, Texas

Seasons of eligibility: 2

A rising redshirt junior, Bell played the last two seasons at Louisiana Tech alongside his brother, Ben. The defensive lineman played in 13 games with the Bulldogs, including four last year (three starts). He totaled 27 tackles and 4.5 sacks in his LA Tech career. Bell spent the 2018 season at the College of Idaho and 2019 with Tyler Junior College. He graduated from Cedar Park (TX) High School in 2018 after earning region defensive lineman of the year honors as a senior.

Charles Brown

WR | 5-11, 170 | Montana State | Arlington (TX) HS | Grand Prairie, Texas

Seasons of eligibility: 4

A rising redshirt sophomore, Brown played the last two seasons at Montana State. Last year, he appeared in four games as the Bobcats reached the FCS National Championship game. The Grand Prairie, Texas native enrolled early at Montana State in January 2020. He was a district MVP at Arlington (TX) High School, registering more than 1,300 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns in his senior season.

Damarius Good

RB | 5-11, 185 | UCF | Lake Brantley (FL) HS | Orlando, Fla.

Seasons of eligibility: 3

A rising redshirt sophomore, Good joins Texas State after spending the last three years at UCF. He redshirted in 2019 before playing in all 10 games during the 2020 season and nine in 2021. The Lake Brantley (FL) High School product was rated as the No. 43 Athlete in the nation by 247 Sports going into UCF.

Ian Hover

OL | 6-4, 325 | Campbell | Westlake (GA) HS | Atlanta, Ga.

Seasons of eligibility: 3

A rising redshirt sophomore, Hover played the last three years at Campbell. He appeared in nine games last season on the offensive line after redshirting in 2019 and not seeing any game action in 2020. As a senior at Westlake (GA) High School, he was an All-Metro Atlanta/South Fulton honoree.

Titus Lyons

TE | 6-4, 215 | Cisco College (JC) | Pottsboro (TX) High School | Pottsboro, Texas

Seasons of eligibility: 4

A rising redshirt freshman, Lyons spent the last two years at Cisco College. He only played in one career game in 2021, which leaves him with four years of eligibility remaining. In his senior season at Pottsboro (TX) High School, he had more than 1,300 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.

Nelson Mbanasor

DL | 6-3, 275 | Texas Tech | Hendrickson HS | Pflugerville, Texas

Seasons of eligibility: 1

A rising redshirt senior, Mbanasor was a part of Texas Tech’s defensive line rotation in 2021 before suffering a season-ending injury. He played in nine games, totaling 11 tackles and 1.5 TFLs. The Pflugerville, Texas native played for the Red Raiders since 2017 and appeared in 31 career games. He was a three-star prospect when he graduated from Hendrickson (TX) High School.

Jaden Mitchell

WR | 5-9, 180 | Arizona | Desert Pines HS | Las Vegas, Nev.

Seasons of eligibility: 3

A rising redshirt sophomore, Mitchell saw limited action in four years as a member of the Arizona football team. He played in one game for the Wildcats as a freshman in 2019 before missing the 2020 season due to injury. He did not appear in any games last year. The Desert Pines (NV) High School product grayshirted for Arizona in 2018. The All-State honoree was a quarterback and wide receiver in his junior year of high school before playing solely receiver as a senior.

Isaac Norris

WR | 6-0, 195 | Lake Travis HS | Austin, Texas

A high school signee, Norris arrives in San Marcos after playing high school football for Lake Travis. The 6-foot wide receiver was an all-around athlete in high school, seeing snaps at wide receiver, quarterback, running back and tight end. In 2021, he helped Lake Travis reach the 6A semifinals and was named all-district MVP Utility Player for the Texas 26-6A District.

Lincoln Pare

RB | 5-8, 190 | Arkansas State | Houston HS | Germantown, Tenn.

Seasons of eligibility: 3

A rising sophomore, Pare played in 21 games over the last two seasons at Arkansas State alongside current Texas State quarterback Layne Hatcher. In 2021, Pare led the team in rushing with 455 yards on 107 carries and started five of the 12 games played. As a true freshman in 2020, he ran for 450 yards on 72 attempts in nine games, including one start. The 2019 Tennessee 6A Mr. Football ran for more than 2,800 yards on 350 carries (8.0 yards per carry) in his senior season at Houston (TN) High School, where he owns the school records in single-season and career rushing yards. He also scored 38 total touchdowns in his senior season.

Ahmirr Robinson

WR | 6-2, 190 | Rutgers | Union HS | Vauxhall, N.J.

Seasons of eligibility: 4

A rising redshirt freshman, Robinson played his first two collegiate seasons at Rutgers. The wide receiver played in six games over the two campaigns, including two last year. He appeared in Rutgers’ TaxSlayer Gator Bowl as well as against No. 11 Ohio State. A former top prospect out of the state of New Jersey in high school, Robinson was first team all-state in his senior season after catching 51 passes for 970 yards and leading his team to the NJSIAA North Group 5 Championship game.

Kajuan Robinson

DL | 6-2, 300 | Memphis | Bryant HS | Bryant, Ark.

Seasons of eligibility: 3

A rising sophomore, Robinson spent the last two seasons at Memphis. The Tiger 3.0 Club member appeared in six games in 2021 as part of the defensive line rotation. He has played in 17 career games, including 11 his true freshman season in 2020. While at Bryant (AR) High School, he helped the team reach its first-ever Class 7A state championship and was the 6A/7A Defensive Player of the Year. He started playing football his sophomore season of high school after initially playing basketball.

Myron Warren

DL | 6-2, 285 | Texas | Many HS | Many, La.

Seasons of eligibility: 3

A rising redshirt sophomore, Warren spent the last three seasons at Texas. He redshirted in 2019 and did not play in 2020 before appearing in three games last year as a member of the defensive line rotation. The Many, La. native made his collegiate debut against Louisiana in the Texas 2021 season opener. Coming out of Many (LA) High School, Warren was a multi-year all-district honoree and a top-30 Louisiana prospect as well as top-100 at his position in the nation. In his senior season, he helped Many reach the 2A state championship game.

Larson Workman

OL | 6-5, 285 | Kansas | Ganado HS | Ganado, Texas

Seasons of eligibility: 4

A rising redshirt freshman, Workman was a member of the Kansas football team in 2021 but did not appear in any games. The former composite three-star recruit out of Ganado (TX) High School was a 3A all-state honorable mention after blocking for two 1,000-yard rushers and a 2,000-yard passer. He also helped Ganado reach the third and fourth round of the 3A playoffs in his senior and junior seasons, respectively.

This group of 14 players adds to the 13 announced in February. The midyear announcements featured 11 transfers and two high school signees. The combined group of 27 players has 337 collegiate career games played and nearly 8,000 career snaps.

Texas State will announce more additions later this summer.

The Bobcats will return 14 starters from last year’s team. They open the season on the road at Nevada on September 3. The home opener is set for September 10 against FIU.
