Red Wolves Down Visiting Bobcats Saturday

JONESBORO, Ark. — In the first of a two-game road trip, the Texas State women’s basketball team fell to Arkansas State Saturday afternoon by a score of 68-48 in Jonesboro, Ark. The Bobcats fall to 9-7 overall and 4-3 in Sun Belt Conference play after the loss.
 

In a season-high 23 minutes for the Bobcats, freshman Taeler Deer scored a career-high 11 points. She made one of four three-pointers for the Bobcats and led the team with two steals.
 

The Bobcats quickly found themselves in a hole to start as Arkansas State rattled off a 10-2 run in the first four minutes of action. Texas State rallied an 8-0 run of their own to tie the game at 10 a piece with 13:10 left in the half. The Bobcats run was highlighted by 4-of-6 shooting from the field and six points from junior guard Erin Peoples.
 

The 10-all tie would prove to be the final time that the Bobcats would stay close as Arkansas State finished the half outscoring Texas State, 23-14.
 

Both teams struggled in the first half with turnovers as the squads were plagued with a combined 23.
 

The second half of action proved to fall Arkansas State’s way as Preseason Player of the Year Aundrea Gamble scored eight of the first 10 points of the half, building the Arkansas State lead to 15 with 15:16 on the clock.
 

The Red Wolves proceeded to build their lead to as many as 23 as the Bobcats struggled to make runs on the offensive end of the court. The closest the Bobcats would come throughout the remainder of the game was 17 with 2:27 left on a three-pointer by Meghan Braeuer.
 

Peoples led all Bobcats with 12 points and seven rebounds. In addition to her 11 points, Deer contributed three rebounds as the Bobcats ultimately lost the rebounding battle, 40-39.
