US 183 Traffic To Shift To New General-Purpose Lanes At South End Of Project

Significant work has been occurring near the Colorado River in advance of a major traffic switch.

Beginning in early July,* all northbound US 183 traffic will shift onto a new bridge over the Colorado River to accommodate demolition and reconstruction of the existing northbound bridge.

The work will require a long-term closure of the northbound exit to Airport Boulevard, 7th Street, 5th Street, and East Cesar Chavez Street.

While the US 183 bridge is demolished and rebuilt, northbound drivers who want to get to Airport Boulevard, 7th Street, 5th Street, and Cesar Chavez Street will follow a detour to a northbound to southbound U-turn at Bolm Road and then exit at Levander Loop.

A non-signalized intersection at Airport Boulevard, and a temporary connection to 7th Street, 5th Street, and Cesar Chavez Street will allow drivers to maintain access to these roadways during construction.

CTRMA urges drivers to plan ahead, as the detour required during this phase of work is anticipated to temporarily increase travel times.

This northbound traffic switch will occur in conjunction with shifting traffic on southbound US 183 to the new non-tolled general-purpose lanes between Bolm Road and Thompson Lane.

This will allow the intersection at Montopolis Drive and southbound US 183 to reopen.

During this phase of construction, drivers on Montopolis Drive who want to get to northbound US 183 will still have to travel south on US 183 and make a U-turn at Vargas Road until the new Montopolis Drive bridge opens.
