Hays County Commissioners Honors Flood Victims, Survivors With Moment Of Silence

Hays County Commissioners Proclaims Flood Awareness Week and Honors Flood Victims, Survivors With Moment Of Silence

The Hays County Commissioners Court on Tuesday proclaimed May 23-27 as Flood Awareness Week in Hays County and remembered the victims of the 2015 Memorial Weekend Flood with a moment of silent reflection during Court on the one-year anniversary of the devastation.

Wimberley Mayor Mac McCullough addressed the Court and thanked the Court and all County employees for their help during the Memorial Weekend flood. “You backed us every step of the way,” he said.

The proclamation signed by the Court notes that flooding can happen anywhere, anytime and without warning, and encourages citizens to become more educated about flooding and emergency preparedness.

“It’s been a tough morning for a lot of people, particularly the families of the 12 lives that were lost and our hearts and prayers go out to those families today as they have since the flood,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley said. “We’re forever grateful to our first responders, our law enforcement, our personnel and the thousands of volunteers who came to our aid.”
