Hays County Commissioners Court Urges Residents to Prepare during National Preparedness Month

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court on Tuesday proclaimed September as National Preparedness Month, noting the vulnerability that residents and visitors to the county have due to natural and manmade disasters, and urged residents to develop and practice emergency plans. As recently as 2015 major floods in Hays County claimed lives and caused immense property destruction from which it will take years to recover.

“Good planning should include a communications strategy and emergency meeting locations as well as a preparedness kit for homes and vehicles,” Hays County Emergency Management Coordinator Kharley Smith said. “Make sure that your home and vehicles have preparedness kits that take into consideration the needs of everyone in the household, including guests and pets.”
How to prepare? Find out more during 30 Ways in 30 Days (a tip each day in September) at the Hays County Emergency Management’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/HaysCountyOfficeOfEmergencyManagement/

Smith encourages local residents to visit Hays County Emergency Management to sign up for warning alerts that can alert you by text, email or cell phone, and for additional preparedness information.
