Texas State Football vs. Nationally-Ranked Teams
Texas State will be looking for its first win against a NCAA Division I FBS nationally-ranked team when the Bobcats host Houston on Saturday night. The Cougars are the highest FBS ranked team that Texas State has faced.
Houston is ranked No. 6 in the AP Top 25 poll and No. 7 in the Amway Top 25 Coaches Poll this week. The Bobcats enter the game with a 0-5 record against nationally-ranked FBS teams after dropping a 42-3 decision at No. 24-ranked Arkansas last Saturday. The only other Top 10 team that Texas State has played was at No. 10 (AP)/No. 8 (Coaches) Florida State to open the 2015 season.
The only other time that Texas State has played a home game against a nationally-ranked FBS team was in 2012 when the Bobcats fell 62-55 in San Marcos and both schools were members of the WAC.
The last time that Texas State beat a nationally-ranked team in any division was on Sept. 24, 2011, when the Bobcats won a 35-26 decision against Stephen F. Austin when the Lumberjacks were ranked No. 22 in the NCAA Division I FCS polls. Texas State also won 27-24 at No. 3-ranked Stephen F. Austin when both schools were in the NCAA Division I FCS and members of the Southland Conference.
