Next Sunday will begin the last few months of construction on the busy LBJ/University  intersection as crews work to finalize the utility and pavement improvements.

The intersection will be completely closed for an estimated five hours beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19 to remove temporary asphalt and move traffic barricades. When that work is complete, crews will open one lane of LBJ to traffic.

The west half of the intersection will remain closed until mid-December as workers complete reclaimed water, storm sewer, sidewalks and pavement. University will be closed to east-west traffic during this phase. One lane will remain open on LBJ, and traffic will be one-way northbound from University to Concho.

Elsewhere on LBJ, the installation of streetlights will begin, and traffic signals will be installed in November. A sidewalk will also be installed the length of University Drive, from LBJ to CM Allen Parkway (across from Texas State University’s recent improvements). The top layer of asphalt and final striping will be completed throughout the entire project limits in December. The project is anticipated to be complete by the end of the year.
