UPDATED: SMCISD School Bus Accident

Ten children, a bus driver and a bus monitor were transported with minor injuries by EMS and a relief bus to local hospitals when a commercial vehicle rear-ended a school bus in San Marcos Monday evening.
 
 
 
The driver of the commercial truck was transported to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with serious injuries. The bus driver, monitor and 10 children were taken to Central Texas Medical Center.
 
The parents of several other bus riders took their children to local hospitals after picking them up from the scene.
 
Witnesses reported the collision, which occurred on SH 21 near the intersection with Reynaldo Way, at 5:13 p.m. Monday, March 2. First responders arrived seven minutes later.
 
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrived soon and took over as lead investigators of the scene.
 
As of 8 p.m. Monday, police and state troopers were maintaining lane closures on SH 21and directing traffic around the scene.

At about 5:15 pm today, March 2, 2015, a San Marcos CISD school bus was rear-ended by a truck while the bus was stopped unloading children.
 
The accident was on Highway 21 near the Gary Job Corps entrance. There were 11 children from Travis Elementary school on board, along with the bus driver and a monitor. 
 
Six children were taken by ambulance to the Central Texas Medical Center. A relief bus with an EMS technician on board transported four children and their parents to CTMC, and one child was released to the parents. Director Carter Hutson, Assistant Superintendent Karen Griffith, and Travis Elementary principal Niki Konecki are at the hospital assisting families.
