Child Sexual Assault Defendant Sentenced To 47 Years

Carlos Garcia, 41, of Kyle was convicted last week of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and several lesser charges, and sentenced yesterday to 47 years in prison.
An investigation into the charges began during the summer of 2015 when two girls under the age of 14 revealed that Mr. Garcia had been exposing himself and propositioning them. Mr. Garcia was indicted soon after for indecency with a child by exposure.
Several months later, a third victim under the age of 14 came forward, revealing that Garcia had inappropriate sexual relations with her multiple times over the course of a year.
The jury comprising 8 men and 4 women heard testimony last week and deliberated for over four hours before finding Mr. Garcia guilty of one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a child, three counts of Indecency with a child by contact, and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure.
On Monday, the jury sentenced Mr. Garcia to 35 years for aggravated sexual assault of a child, 15 years for Indecency with a Child by Contact on count 2, 10 years for a second count of Indecency with a child by contact, 5 years for indecency with a child by exposure, and recommended probation for a period of 10 years for the last remaining count of indecency with a child by exposure.
The Honorable Judge Bill Henry, who presided over the trial, ordered consecutive sentences in three of the counts, in effect requiring Garcia to serve a sentence of 47 total years in prison.
Assistant District Attorneys Katie Arnold and Erika Price prosecuted the case, and recognized the work of Hays County Sheriff’s Detective Mike Andrews, who investigated the cases for his work in bringing justice to the young victims.
The District Attorney’s Office also expressed gratitude for the work and dedication of the victims’ support personnel who worked to assist the children throughout the process, including Vanessa Paulini and Ashley Rios with the Roxanne’s House Child Advocacy Center and the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center, and the District Attorney’s own, Victim Assistance Coordinator Monika Lacey.
