City Council Workshop On Flood Recovery Set for Monday

The City will use funds awarded to San Marcos from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development’s CDBG-DR program to cover a large portion of the cost of the proposed infrastructure projects.

The City of San Marcos will hold a City Council workshop on the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program on Monday, April 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 630 E. Hopkins.

The focus of the workshop is on the City’s flood recovery infrastructure feasibility study, infrastructure projects and the capacity of these infrastructure projects to address flooding in the neighborhoods affected by the 2015 floods.

The City will use funds awarded to San Marcos from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development’s CDBG-DR program to cover a large portion of the cost of the proposed infrastructure projects.

HUD required the City to create an action plan to guide City officials in the allocation of a $25.08 million federal disaster recovery grant. The action plan allocates the funds among four categories:

Housing: $7,524,000
Infrastructure: $12,540,000
Planning: $3,762,000
Administration: $1,254,000

During the upcoming workshop, City staff will seek direction from the City Council regarding the next steps in determining how the $12.5 million allocated to infrastructure projects from the $25 million CDBG-DR grant will be used.

In late March the City Council held a workshop to address disaster recovery housing for those impacted by the 2015 floods. During that workshop, the Council charged City staff with creating a disaster recovery housing program for rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood damaged homes.
