Men’s Golf Finishes 5th At SBC Championships

The Bobcats finished a stroke behind Arkansas State and Georgia State but were done in by shooting 7-over par over the last two holes among the countable scores. Texas State finished one-shot better than South Alabama, two ahead of Coastal Carolina and three shots better than Little Rock.

Sandestin, Fla. – Entering the Sun Belt Conference Championships as the 11th seed, the Texas State men’s golf team put together three solid rounds at the Raven Golf Course with a 22-over par 873 (292-291-290). Unfortunately, the Bobcats finished one stroke back of making the match play portion of the tournament.

“I’m super proud of my guys’ performance this week. We played very solid all week and had a chance to advance to match play but came up a stroke short,” said head coach Shane Howell. “This is a very young group who will grow from this experience and get better going forward. The future is very bright. I’m going to miss my two seniors, David Faraudo Godinez and Anthony McGeorge, who worked so hard during their Bobcat careers.”

Pacing the Bobcats was McGeorge with a 3-over, 216 (71-75-70) to finish in a tie for 10th. The senior carded seven birdies over the three rounds. He also posted the team’s lone eagle and just the fifth of the tournament on the par-5, 562-yard 11th hole during his final time playing the course.

Chase Ambrose wrapped up the year with a 5-over, 218 (75-72-71) for a five-way tie for 16th place. After a slow start over the first 18 holes, the sophomore recorded four birdies apiece over the final 36 holes. Two of the biggest birdies came on the par-5, 631-yard 7th hole and par-3, 158-yard 8th hole Tuesday afternoon to move the Bobcats into a two-way tie for third at the time with just a few holes left to be played.

Finishing within the top 25 for the third time this season was Faraudo at 7-over par, 220 (74-72-74). Each round saw him post two birdies while his 37 birdies was tied for the seventh most among the golfers.

Rounding out the scoring for Texas State was Logan Lockwood at 15-over, 228 (72-80-76) and Inigo Benaran at 18-over, 231 (84-72-75).
