San Antonio Receives $1M Federal Grant For Terrorism Preparedness

The Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly announced the release of Fiscal Year 2017 Notices of Funding Opportunity for 10 DHS preparedness grant programs totaling more than $1.6 billion.

San Antonio received a $1 million grant from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to improve preparedness against a terrorist attack.

Houston and Dallas also were included in the three Texas cities selected for the grants awarded through the DHS Urban Areas Security Initiative as they are considered to be at a high risk for terrorism.

San Antonio officials plan to use the grant funding to improve communications between various law enforcement agencies.

The grant programs provide funding to state, local, tribal and territorial governments, as well as transportation authorities, nonprofit organizations and the private sector, to improve the nation’s readiness in preventing, protecting against, responding to, recovering from and mitigating terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies.
