San Marcos Rules Require Annual Inspections Of Stormwater Facilities

“This program will ensure that permanent stormwater management facilities will be properly maintained and will continue to function as they were originally designed,” San Marcos Stormwater Coordinator Alexandra O’Connor said.

San Marcos City Council approved amendments to the drainage utility ordinance as part of the City’s stormwater management plan on July 5.

The amendments require permanent stormwater management facility owners to annually submit inspection reports performed by a Texas-licensed engineer.

The City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires the City to review and revise its ordinance concerning stormwater pollution and water quality.

As part of that process, the approved amendments to regulate the maintenance and inspection of permanent stormwater management facilities inside San Marcos city limits.

“This program will ensure that permanent stormwater management facilities will be properly maintained and will continue to function as they were originally designed,” San Marcos Stormwater Coordinator Alexandra O’Connor said. “Proper maintenance of these facilities will help reduce flooding and improve water quality throughout the city.”

Stormwater management facility owners will choose an inspector from a list of pre-certified engineers provided by the City.
