Bobcats Set To Play 32 Home Games, 23 Contests Against NCAA Championship Teams

“The tradition we’ve set of having great teams come to San Marcos will continue this year, beginning with our very first series against Oklahoma State,” Harrington said.

San Marcos, Texas – Texas State baseball coach Ty Harrington released the schedule for the upcoming 2018 season on Tuesday morning.

The Bobcats will begin their 56-game campaign with a bang, as they will open the year playing host to Oklahoma State in a three-game series Feb. 16-18 at Bobcat Ballpark. Other early-season matchups include road trips to Rice, Baylor and UC Santa Barbara. The series with the Gauchos will be the first meetings between the two programs.

“The tradition we’ve set of having great teams come to San Marcos will continue this year, beginning with our very first series against Oklahoma State,” Harrington said. “We’ve put together a challenging schedule, which we know will be exciting for our fans, our alumni, our current players and our season ticket holders.”

TXST is billed to play 32 home games and 24 contests on the road.

Additional notable non-conference home games include dates with Rice (March 6), Texas (March 27), UTSA (April 3) and Baylor (April 24).

The first Sun Belt Conference action will be a three-game home series against Appalachian State March 16-18. TXST will then hit the road for a weekend set with a Coastal Carolina team that won the national championship two years ago (March 23-25). The Bobcats knocked off the Chanticleers in three out of four meetings last season, which included eliminating CCU in the Sun Belt Conference Championship.

Texas State will compete 23 times against programs who have played in the NCAA Championship at least once over the last two years. That mark also includes 10 contests with teams that advanced to the College World Series during that same period (Oklahoma State, UC Santa Barbara, Coastal Carolina, Texas A&M).

The 2018 Sun Belt Conference Championship will be contested May 22-27 in Lafayette, La., and will be hosted by Louisiana.

“We already had a great baseball conference, but it’s only been magnified now that we have added a team that won the national championship two years ago,” Harrington said. “Baseball purists that look around the league will see that we have some of the best facilities around. The emphasis on baseball in the Sun Belt has always been and I’m sure will continue to be at a high level.”

Texas State is coming off a 2017 season that saw the squad finish 29-30 overall and finish fourth in the SBC West Division at 13-17. The Bobcats have qualified for the conference tournament all four years since joining the league in 2014, which includes a run to the semifinals last year.

Season tickets for the upcoming campaign will go on sale in early December.
