After 4 years and six months of litigation, West City Council members approved a $10.44 million settlement agreement with three companies involved in a fire and explosion in April 2013 of the West Fertilizer Company.

The settlement will pay for damages not covered by insurance or state and federal grants to improve the city’s damaged infrastructure.

The explosion killed 15 people, injured hundreds of residents and emergency responders and nearly leveled part of the town located on Interstate 35. Streets, water lines, the sewer system and other city infrastructure was also was destroyed.
